Watford Gap Services

4.1 (1 reviews)

Watford Gap Services opened in 1959 as one of Britain’s original motorway service stations, becoming an iconic stopping point on the M1. During the 1960s and 70s, it gained legendary status as a meeting place for musicians, with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix among its famous visitors. The 24-hour Blue Boar restaurant became a cultural landmark of the rock and roll era. Operated by Roadchef, the services maintain their historic significance while offering modern amenities. The unusual name comes from a nearby gap in the hills, not the Hertfordshire town of Watford located 60 miles south.
