Southwaite Services

Southwaite Services opened in 1972 as the M6’s most northern motorway service area, positioned between junctions 41 and 42 in Cumbria. Originally operated by Esso Taverna, a southbound base was added in 1977. Granada attempted to rename it ‘Carlisle’ in 1996 but abandoned the idea due to poor reception. The former English Tourist Board information centre closed to make way for Greggs. Now operated by Moto with facilities on both sides connected by a pedestrian footbridge.
