Membury Services

Membury Services opened in stages from 1972-73 on the site of RAF Membury, a World War II airfield. A tribute to those who served stands in the car park. Contractors delayed Ross Group’s access to the site, damaging their reputation and finances. In 1977, Ross added an unusual garden centre to the westbound services. Prime Minister John Major famously queued for chips and chilli con carne here in 1991. Operated by Welcome Break, it features David Fisher murals reflecting local history.
