Leicester Forest East Services

Leicester Forest East Services opened on 14 February 1966, designed by architect Howard V Lobb based on rare Italian Autostrade designs. The distinctive bridge-restaurant featured a Terence Conran-designed interior with sailor-suited staff and was praised as having the only decent motorway restaurant in Britain. Operated by Welcome Break, it forms a gateway to The National Forest. The services survived the M1 widening in 1995 through careful engineering that squeezed the extra lane around the building. Originally operated by Ross Group, it remains recognizable despite numerous facelifts.
