Lancaster Services
Lancaster Services, originally Forton, opened on 14 July 1965 featuring the iconic 20-metre Pennine Tower restaurant designed to resemble an air traffic control tower. The hexagonal tower offered spectacular views of the Lancashire plain and Bowland Fells from its 120-seat restaurant with waiter service. The tower closed in 1989 due to low use and high maintenance but was Grade II listed in 2012 as a treasured landmark. The site housed Britain’s first motorway sub-post office from 1982. Operated by Moto.
