Killington Lake Services

3.8 (1 reviews)

Killington Lake Services opened on 17 May 1972 as a southbound-only facility partnered with Tebay’s northbound services. Dubbed ‘Britain’s first hide and seek service station,’ it was deliberately landscaped to be hidden from the motorway. Initial cramped conditions drew criticism from Egon Ronay as ‘painfully inadequate.’ After rebuilding in 1985 with windows overlooking the reservoir, Which? praised it as ‘the most attractive’ service area. The 1994 M6 here was England’s quietest motorway with a service area. Operated by Roadchef.
