Markfield Services

Markfield Services sits at M1 Junction 22, opening in 1989 as a small Granada service station primarily serving the A50. Never intended as a full motorway facility due to its proximity to Leicester Forest East, it experienced a troubled history with declining facilities. The Little Chef closed in 2008, followed by Costa in 2011. Euro Garages later closed the main amenity building in 2014, leaving it abandoned. Today, only the Travelodge remains operational alongside derelict buildings, making Markfield a cautionary tale of motorway service station decline.
