Woodall Services
Woodall Services opened in 1968 between junctions 30 and 31 of the M1, becoming Yorkshire’s oldest motorway service area. Originally operated by Trust House Forte, the services featured David Fisher murals dedicated to Harry Brearley, the Sheffield inventor of stainless steel. Three possible sites were examined before construction: Killamarsh, Wales village, and Woodall. The proximity to a village called Wales creates a geographic trivia question, as Woodall can claim to be the closest English service area to a ‘Welsh border’. Now operated by Welcome Break.
