Pease Pottage Services
Pease Pottage Services opened in May 1988 as a £3.5 million Welcome Break development on remaining Whalebone Wood land. Designed to cater only for the A23, Forte argued against the ‘public inconvenience’ of restricted motorway signing. Signs were eventually added in 1994. When Granada sold Welcome Break’s motorway sites, they kept Pease Pottage by arguing it wasn’t technically a motorway service area. Now operated by Moto, it remains one of Britain’s smallest motorway services.
